Dr. Frankel has been in practice since 2005 with Renaissance Family Practice (RFP), seeing patients at their Glenshaw location, and was the President of RFP from 2017 through 2024. He also served as the President of the Medical Staff at UPMC St. Margaret from 2022–2024, and as a member of multiple hospital committees.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, he attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh and completed his residency training at the UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency program in 2005, where he continued in multiple teaching roles through 2024, most notably teaching office-based procedures to Family Medicine residents.
Eric Frankel, MD, was named as the Vice President of the UPMC Primary Care Service Line in December 2024. The newly formed service line is being developed to bring added support, structure and sustainability to Primary Care while enhancing the quality of patient care. He was named the Interim Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Family Medicine in 2025.
