Biography

Dr. Yui Sugiura is Director of Osteopathic Education at UPMC McKeesport Family Medicine Residency Program and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine. Dr. Sugiura, originally born and raised in Japan, ventured out to the United States to attend The University of Chicago where she earned a B.A. in Anthropology. Thereafter, she continued to pursue her interest in global health by attending Tulane University where she completed her M.P.H. in International Health and Development with a specialization in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine. Her passion for research excelled and she then went to complete a M.B.S. in Biomedical Sciences at Midwestern University, where she interacted with other osteopathic physicians and realized that her interests and goals aligned with fundamental osteopathic principles. She subsequently received her D.O. at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University.

Dr. Sugiura trained as a resident at the UPMC McKeesport Family Medicine Residency Program and was also a graduate of the Global Health Track. Upon graduation, she joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine in 2019 as Assistant Professor and faculty at UPMC McKeesport Family Medicine Residency Program. In 2020, she was appointed Director of Osteopathic Education at UPMC McKeesport Family Medicine Residency Program and joined as core faculty for the residency program.

She is passionate about providing care for the underserved community and enjoys practicing full broad spectrum family medicine including women’s health, inpatient medicine, procedures and osteopathic medicine, in addition to medical education and global health. She also volunteers at the 9th Street Clinic, a free clinic for the uninsured. In her free time, she loves to travel, cook, and spend time with her family and friends.
